Sammy Baugh, First Great NFL Passer Dies
Sammy Baugh who spent all 16 years of his NFL career with the Washington Redskins has passed away at the age of 94. He had been in bad health for several years suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Most recently had been battling kidney problems,low blood pressure and double pneumonia. He was considered the first great passer of the NFL. This was back in the day when they wore leather helmets, he joined the Redskins in 1937 and in his rookie season took his team to the title game where they defeated the Chicago Bears. When he retired after 16 seasons he held all the major NFL passing records. Back in 1994 the league named him one of the 4 greatest quarterbacks along with Otto Graham, Johnny Unitas and Joe Montana on its 75th Anniversary team.
