Do The Longhorns Deserve #1 Consideration?

Published by wv918 at 6:02 pm under football Edit This

texasI don’t think the Texas Longhorns helped their argument for being considered the number one team in the country after they squeaked by The Ohio State Buckeyes 24-21. With only 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter Colt McCoy threw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Quan Cosby to barely beat Ohio State and claim the Fiesta Bowl trophy. McCoy put up some good numbers at quarterback going 41 for 59 for 414 yards 2 TD’s and 1 interception. Cosby was his main target catching 14 passes for 171 yards and 2 TD’s. Jordan Shipley also caught 10 passes for 78 yards. The Buckeyes rotating quarterbacks didnt fare very well at all. Todd Boeckman was only 5 for 11 for 110 yards and 1 touchdown. Terrelle Pryor wasn’t any better going 5 for 14 for 66 yards. Although he did rush for 78 yards on 15 carries. Beanie Wells was really all the offense they had with his rushing for 106 yards on 16 carries.

I asked if the Longhorns deserved to be considered for number one after barely beating Ohio State. I don’t see why they shouldn’t be even with a close 3 point win like they had. A win is a win in my opinion. Look at Texas’s one loss, it was against Texas Tech well Texas Tech got beat by Mississippi in the Cotton Bowl. Mississippi is the team that handed Florida its only loss of the season. The other team in the so called BCS Championship game is the Oklahoma Sooners and who beat them, the Texas Longhorns. Its all really a jumbled mess but I still think Texas deserves just as much consideration for number one as does Florida or Oklahoma. Then you have the Utah Utes who are undefeated and wont even be in the top 4 when the whole mess is over and done with.
