The Busch brothers did something in qualifying that hasn’t been done in 9 years. Both won the top 2 spots in the field for the Shelby 427,which will be on Fox tomorrow starting at 1pm. The last brothers to accomplish the feat was Rusty and Kenny Wallace at New Martinsville back in 1999.
Unfortunately Kyle Busch had changed his motor in practice before qualifying and per Nascar rules has to go to the rear of the field. Toyota had a rash of engine problems and in all 5 cars had to change engines and go to the back for the race.
David Reutimann and Marcos Ambrose was to start fourth and fifth before the changes. Also team mates Brain Vickers and Scott Speeds two Redbull cars had to swap engines.
Jimmie Johnson will start third followed by Ryan Newman in sixth, then Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart round out the top ten.
Some of the bigger name drivers didn’t qualify well and will start back in the pack. Jeff Gordon was 28th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 31st, Denny Hamlin 34th and Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth will be all the way back in 40th spot.
The 2 one car teams everyone has been talking about, the 41 driven by Jeremy Mayfield and the 36 of Scott Riggs failed to make the race. Both had made the previous 2 races in Fontana and Daytona.

Am I the only one who is sick of the whole Manny and the Dodgers soap opera? Every other day you see in the news, Dodgers offer Manny 20 million, he rejects it.
Now the latest offer is a one year deal for 25 million and a option for a second at 20 million,of course he rejected it.
In my eyes the Dodgers are looking pretty pathetic right about now. The way they’re going after him reminds me of a guy asking a girl out and she keeps telling him no but the guy keeps asking and the more he does the more desperate he appears.
I don’t know if it Manny or his agent Scott Boras robbing the Dodgers, its probably both. The player has the final say on contracts, the agent works for him not the other way around.
If Ramirez thinks he is worth more than 25 million a year than shame on him. The dude is 38 years old, not that a younger player deserves that much but definitely not one almost knocking on the 40 year old door.
Pardon me while I quote something my grandma used to say about stuck up people who thought they were better than everyone else. “I’d like to buy him for what he’s worth and sell him for what he thinks he’s worth.”

It may just be because I’m a die hard Braves fan and always looking for the positive when it comes to them, but I think their roster is looking pretty good.
When the off season started and all the wheeling and dealing got under way you would have thought the Braves were going to be the second coming of the Bad News Bears if you were reading all the stuff that was written.
Sure they didn’t get Jake Peavy and that would have been a big get for them. Then they didn’t get A.J. Burnett when he decided to go to the Yankees. I say they are better off without him. He’s been on the disabled list 10 times in his career and possible could have spent some time there as a Brave.
Instead they got as a number 1 starter Derek Lowe who is a work horse and will give you plenty of quality innings. Javier Vasquez they got from the White Sox had a 12-16 record last year but I’m hoping coming to a new league he can fool some hitters.
Then they signed Kenshin Kawakami a 33 year old pitcher from Japan. He has a career record of 112-72with a 3.22 ERA. Last season he was 9-5 with a 2.30 ERA. He’s won 40 more games than hes lost so that’s pretty good. Lets just hope he can do that over here.
Just recently they signed Garrett Anderson for some outfield defense and help in hitting homers. He hit 15 homers and drove in 84 runs while batting .293 last season. Lets hope Jeff Francoeur rebounds from his dreadful year, .239 avg and 11 homers.
I don’t think the Braves are going to regret not getting Ken Griffey Jr. one bit. He’s 40 years old and his knees are shot. Hes been spending more time on the disabled list than off in recent years.
I also think the Braves are going to be thanking the Dodgers for resigning Rafael Furcal. I think in the end Furcal did the Braves a favor in going back to the Dodgers after he had initially agreed to come to the Braves.

Even though the Nascar season is only 2 races old, there is a couple cars from a big name team that is in early trouble.
The cars I’m referring to are the 88 car driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the 5 car driven by Mark Martin. Both cars are owned by Rick Hendricks who also has the 48 driven by Jimmie Johnson and the 24 that Jeff Gordon drives.
Actually Jimmie Johnson the defending champion is not in that great of a position in the points right now sitting at 19th after finishing 29th at Fontana.
But Martin and Earnhardt Jr. are the ones off to a bad start. This was suppose to be Mark Martin’s last big try at winning that championship that has eluded him for 30 years. Right now he sits in 27th place in the standings after blowing a engine in the Fontana race and ending up 40th.
Earnhardt Jr. had the same problem as Martin, blowing his engine and in finishing 39th place. Right now he sits in 35th place in the standings. After 5 races this years points standings kick in and if your not in the top 35 your not guaranteed a spot in the field. That’s important because in the case of qualifying being cancelled due to rain the go by the 2009 point standings after 5 races.
So Jr. is right on the verge of falling below the 35th spot with only 3 races left so time to step it up.
It may just be coincidence that 2 Hendricks cars lost their engines in the same race but if I was Gordon or Johnson I would be concerned about my cars.

The Nascar boys are stopping in Las Vegas this weekend for the Shelby 427 so if you want to check out a race now is the time. They only make one stop in Vegas during the season.
There have been a total of 11 Sprint Cup races at the Vegas track and 7 different winners. Carl Edwards won here last year and Jimmie Johnson the year before that. In fact Jimmie Johnson has won this race a total of 3 times.
Other multiple winners have been Jeff Burton in 1999 and 2000 and Matt Kenseth in 2003 and 2004.
Matt Kenseth will be going for three wins in a row and if he accomplishes it he will make history. No driver has ever started the season with three straight wins.
If you remember when Carl Edwards won here last year it was later discovered in post race inspection that he had a loose oil cover. He was docked 100 points but allowed to keep the win.
So if your in Vegas this weekend and want to catch the Shelby 427 there is still tickets available. Click on Shelby 427 to purchase your tickets or by going to the ad in my side bar.
