JTG Daughtery Racing crew member suspended 4 races
Nascar has announced that it has suspended JTG Daughtery Racing crew member Jimmy Watts for the next 4 races, beginning at the Food City 500 to be run March 22 at Bristol Motor Speedway up until and including the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on April 18th.
If you will recall Jimmy Watts who is the gas man for the 47 car driven by Nascar driver Marcos Ambrose, chased a runaway tire out into the infield grass during green flag pit stops and that forced Nascar to throw a caution flag. As a result of that caution flag almost the entire field of cars was caught one lap down, only leaving 7 cars on the lead lap. Nascar immediately took action against crew member Watts and barred him from the pits for the remainder of the race.
Nascar suspended JTG Daughtery Racing crew member Jimmy Watts under a rule that prohibits crew members from going on or near the racing surface while the cars are on the track racing.
Nascar driver Matt Kenseth was quoted as saying “Maybe he’s new, maybe he hasn’t seen us drive but we tend to wreck a lot. A spokesman for JTG Daughtery Racing said that they are ready to put the incident behind them and there would be no appeal filed to have the penalty reduced.
Also JTG Daughtery Racing crew chief Frank Kerr was put on probation for the remainder of the season because Nascar policy states that he is responsible for his teams actions.
