Richmond track facts

Published by wv918 under Nascar Edit This

The Nascar Sprint Cup drivers will be in Richmond this weekend for the running of The Crown Royal 400. Actually the official name of the race is Crown Royal presents the Russ Friedman 400. It was all part of a contest to have the race named after you and I suppose Russ Friedman won.

After a week of high speeds and wild wrecks at Talladega, the Nascar Sprint Cup drivers will be glad to get on a short track and do a little beatin and bangin I bet. Its another one of those Saturday night races which I totally hate but I’ll lose sleep and watch anyway.

Here’s some interesting  facts about the Richmond track:

1.The first Nascar race ran at Richmond Speedway was in April of 1953 and won by Lee Petty.
2.The total purse for the 1953 race was $3,625.
3.Lee Petty’s car was a 1953 Dodge.
4.The length of the race was 100 miles.
5.Lee Petty’s pole speed was 48.465 mph.
6.There have been 105 Nascar races ran at Richmond, first 5 years one single race but since 1959 2 races per season.
7.Clint Bowyer won the spring race last year driving the 07 car. This year he’s in the 33 car.
8.Purse for last years race was $4,340,768.
9.Denny Hamlin won the pole for this race last year with a speed of 126.198 mph.
10.There was 14 cautions for 71 laps last year.
11.The record for caution flags is 15 back in the spring of 2003.
12.All time leader in wins is Richard Petty with 13 followed by Rusty Wallace with 6 and David Pearson, Bobby Allison and Dale Earnhardt with 5 each.
13.Current active drivers with the most wins is Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Tony Stewart with 3 wins each.
14.Mark Martin won a race here back in 1990, 19 years ago.
15.Kasey Kahne won a race here in 2005, so I’m hoping for a repeat this Saturday night.

Brad Keselowski gets first win in wild Aaron’s 499

Published by wv918 under Nascar Edit This

The fans sure got their moneys worth and then some at the Nascar Sprint Cup Aaron’s 499 ran yesterday at the Talladega Superspeedway. Brad Keselowski was the winner in a wild finish that included Carl Edwards 99 car launched into the catch fence after it was hit by Ryan Newman 29 car.

That was only one of three big wreck they had yesterday. The first one was on lap 7 and took out a bunch of good cars including my driver Kasey Kahne. Also caught up in the wreck was Sprint Cup points leader Jeff Gordon who ended up losing his lead in the points and now sits in second place. Mark Martin and Clint Bowyer were also in the wreck on lap 7.

The second big wreck happened with 9 laps to go and was a result of Denny Hamlin accidentally getting into Juan Pablo Montoya and turning him. There was several good drivers taken out in this one as well including Denny Hamlin, Juan Pablo Montoya, Michael Waltrip and Jimmie Johnson.

So with Keselowski winning in a wild finish, Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished second and Ryan Newman got third even though he took a hard hit from Edwards car at the finish line. Marcos Ambrose had his best finish in a Sprint Cup car ending up fourth. Rookie Scott Speed ended up fifth, which is also his best finish in a Sprint Cup race.

Some of my drivers had a good day, Joey Logano got a ninth place finish so good for him. Kasey ended up 36th after getting caught in that lap 7 wreck. Reed Sorenson brought the Kings 43 car home 11th so that was cool. Denny Hamlin was 22nd and Kyle Busch was 25th.

Matt Kenseth Nationwide wreck in Aaron’s 312

Published by wv918 under Nascar Edit This

Checkout this wreck Matt Kenseth had yesterday in the Nascar Nationwide race. The race was the Aaron’s 312 and the eventually winner was David Ragan. This was his first win in either the Nationwide or the Sprint Cup series. Ragan was actually the one who bumped Kenseth and started the wreck. Ragan is also Kenseth’s team mate at Roush Fenway Racing. So I’m curious as to how they are getting along this morning.
