Denny Hamlin wins at Pocono
Denny Hamlin ended a 50 race winless streak yesterday in winning the Nascar Sprint Cup race at Pocono. The race was postponed Sunday due to the rain. Hamlin last win was at Martinsville in March of 2008 and this was his third win at the Pocono track. He was also racing with a heavy heart as his 91 year old grandmother had just passed away only day earlier in Tampa.
Juan Pablo Montoya finished second for his first top 5 of the year and Clint Bowyer had his best finish of the season coming in third. Sam Hornish was fourth which was the highest he has ever finished in a Nascar race. Kasey Kahne finished fifth for another good showing.
I thought for a while that Kasey was going to win because Hamlin was stuck back around in 10th place with not that many laps left. But still a fifth place finish is great for Kasey and he moved up another spot in the standings and now sits in 7th place. Kahne is only 109 points out of fourth place but what would even be better is if he won another race or two for the bonus points since the points reset to 5000 for the 12 Sprint Cup chasers when that starts. Every race won is good for 10 extra bonus points added to your 5000.
